My Landloard Sucks

This must be day 7 now and I still don't have working heat in my apartment, we've ordered a space heater from amazon now. A friend told me that depending in your lease you can have your landloard compensate for any maintenance expenses you incur, but it's only $25 and maybe this is one of your pick your battles moments. I have had four people including my apartment staff assist me in using the tuchscreen. Finally on Saturday we put bump dots around the plastic peremter, to give me a rough idea of where to press for the temperature and heat/AC. A maintenance guy came in yesterday and says he replaced the regulator on the fan, we moved the temp back up to 74 or so and damned if the thing still doesn't fucking work. Also, the front gate of the complex where cars drive through made this horrible rhinding, grinding noise all day yesterday. Apparently the same dipshits who can't fix my AC also don't have a can of oil lying around. The neighbors blare there sub almost daily at a really obnoctious volume on an almost daily basis. Thank god they haven't done the same thing so far today. I'm blind not deaf. I know when the AC kicks on and when it doesn't. So you tell me why four sighted people plus myself and some bump dots over the course of a week aren't right about the fucking thing not working. Apparently no heat qualifies as a maintenance emergency, so I called it in on Saturday but damned if they don't take their sweet ass time to actually get up here. So basically, if your fridge goes on the frits during a weekend your out of luck. What do they expect me to do if it's something worse? I would call in the thermostat again, but I'm gonna have to go through the same process over again. All of this makes me think I'd really love to learn how to repair more householdy things.

You can call in a professional to fix it and take the cost out of your rent. Check the law first.

Fuck that stuff is all ridiculous. The thing that worries me most is the touch screens. I mean almost everything new these days is touch screen unfortunately, and that is worrisome to me. What chance do we have? Beyond that rant, I don't know anything about laws on this stuff but sure hope they sort things out for you soon! Sounds like a shit spot to live ...

$200 to get a talking thermostat, but you may want to save up for one? I know my roommate and I will be probably getting one at some point, but for now be my eyes will have to do.

Time to contact your Landlord/Tenants' Union? Also, contact blindness organizations. I'm not saying to join up. I'm saying, the landlord needs more push. Sounds like the kind that thinks they don't have to listen to the tenant who can't see. Your Human Rights Commission may help. Also, as this is clearly legal, contact your state's Attorney General.
Obviously, they don't hear your complaints. Maybe, an investigator from your A.G., will worry them. Also, the health department. This is a safety hazard. Time to ask for temporary lodgings, since they aren't smart enough to be fixing your heating system.
I say this, to help solve your problem. I got a lot of suggestions how to be part of the solution, instead of part of the problem.
I hope I gave several solutions.
Blessings In Christ,
Sarah

Yesterday I sent an email to my rehab agency to see if they can't purchase me one. Admitedly I've never spoken to management about how to make the place more accessible for a blind user. Maybe they have an old dial thermostat lying around? Luckily it has warmed up considerably since, but winter is fast approaching. I don't think I would temporarily switch lodging. This place is close to my university and I have many stores and restaraunts in the area. Would probably be better to stay put. The complex is owned by an umbrella corporation that buys up several apartments near universities. It seems like any acomodations for disability would have to come from further up the chain. Sorry this isn't your typical baby mamma drama lol'. We're feeling better now and the gate stopped screeching.

I dealt with the same bullshit with my fridge back in April and May. It took a guy from the supplyer to finally figure out that the timer that turns it on and off was old and needed replacing. Glad I'm outta there now.

If heat is included with the apt, they have to fix it asap. Otherwise it is illegal, because breaks lease terms. I'd get a lawyer either by legal aid, or contact NFB, also call up the ladder of command for your complex
